Since 1994, the Jesuits and the Sisters of Mercy have teamed up to offer this opportunity for transformation.
For over 500 years, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola have been transforming the Church and the world, one person at a time. Written and approved in the 16th century, the Exercises focus on developing spiritual freedom through a life-changing, and deeply intimate encounter with Christ.
Fourteen retreatants and eight team members gathered at Guadalupe Mercy Center for a two-day retreat designed as an introduction to the dynamics and prayer of the Spiritual Exercises.
Since 1994, this retreat has been offered thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Jesuits and the Sisters of Mercy, and over 260 persons, mostly from Belize city and its environs have participated.
This year's retreat is being led primarily by our lay spiritual directors, who have shown a passion and a strong aptitude for spiritual direction. With each passing year, their confidence and their understanding of Ignatian spirituality continue to grow. They are accompanied by Sr. Sarita Vasquez, RSM and Fr. Brian Christopher, SJ. The commitment of our lay partners bodes well for the retreat, promising that it will be offered for years to come!
